Day 1Travel to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Your gorilla trekking safari begins with a drive to south-western Uganda, to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park – the home of almost half of the world’s population of mountain gorillas. You will make a brief stop at the equator monument in Kayabwe – Mpigi district, 72 km from Kampala – Uganda’s capital. You will enjoy a scenic drive through the lush greenery and rugged countryside, arriving at Bwindi in the early evening.
Day 2Gorilla trekking in Bwindi – Batwa trail experience
The day’s highlight will be the gorilla trekking excursion in one of the forest’s major regions. There are 12 habituated mountain gorilla families found in the vast Bwindi Impenetrable forest. Your guided trekking expedition lasts between 2 – 8 hours. Once you encounter a family, you will spend an hour observing its members as they go about their day. In the afternoon, you will embark on a Batwa trail experience – an encounter with the native pygmy forest dwellers.
Day 3Return drive to Kampala – end of safari
At the climax of your gorilla trekking safari, you will embark on a return drive to Kampala. You will have lunch in Mbarara town and later visit Mbambire, a crafts center where local drums are made. Once you reach the capital, your guide will drop you at your residence or drive you to the airport to catch your flight.
