Your safari will begin when you embark on a drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park situated in south-western Uganda. You will make a brief stop at the equator in Kayabwe, to take photographs at the monuments and visit the curio shops in the area. You will have lunch in Mbarara town and then continue with your scenic drive, sighting the famous Ankole long-horned, rugged hills, and lush greenery that dominate the region. You will arrive at the park in the late evening.
You will report at the park headquarters in the morning for a briefing before hitting one of the trailheads to begin your quest for a habituated gorilla family. Your guided trekking expedition will last between 2-8 hours. Once you encounter a gorilla family, you will spend an hour observing its members as they go about their day. In the afternoon, you will embark on a Batwa trail experience – an encounter with a tribe of native pygmy forest dwellers.
You will depart from Bwindi in the early and embark on a drive to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park located in the far south-western region at the border with Rwanda and Congo. The park is situated in the Virunga mountains, and has 3 inactive volcanoes – Mount Muhabura, Mount Gahinga and Mount Sabinyo, found within its borders. Once there, you will embark on a gorilla trekking excursion. Besides Bwindi, Mgahinga is the only other place where mountain gorillas can be encountered in Uganda.
Before leaving Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, you will embark on a golden monkey trekking adventure in one of the park’s dense forests. After the excursion, you will embark on a drive back to Kampala. This will mark the end of your mountain gorilla trekking safari.
