Kigali city tour – end of safari
Day 1Travel to Nyungwe Forest National Park – canopy walk in the park
A guide will pick you from Kigali airport or any other convenient location. You will drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park, the best destination for chimpanzee trekking in Rwanda. Before retiring to your lodge for the evening, you will have a canopy walk in the park.
Day 2Chimpanzee tracking excursion in the park
The highlight of the day will be a chimpanzee tracking excursion. You will encounter any of the habituated chimp families and spend time observing its members. Because the chimps in this park have not yet been fully habituated, you will have ‘glimpses’ of the beasts from time to time.
Day 3Guided nature walk in the park – travel to Gisenyi town
You will have a guided nature walk in the park before embarking on a drive to Gisenyi. You will spot various primate and bird species while exploring the park. Gisenyi is a town on the northern shore of Lake Kivu. You will arrive there in the evening.
Day 4Boat cruise on Lake Kivu – community visit – transfer to Volcanoes National Park
You will go for a boat cruise on Lake Kivu in the early morning. You will explore the islands on the lake, take walks in the nearing communities and fishing villages. After the excursions, you will transfer to Volcanoes National Park.
Day 5Gorilla trekking excursion – guided nature walk in the park
You will report at the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking in the early morning. You will track and encounter one of the habituated gorilla families living in the park. Volcanoes National Park is most known for its resident mountain gorillas. It is among the few places in the world where the endangered mountain gorillas can be found. After the excursion, you will embark on a guided nature walk in the park.
Day 6Kigali city tour – end of safari
At the climax of your excursions, you will transfer to Kigali for a city tour, after which your guide will drive you to the airport if you have a flight to catch, or drop you at a convenient location in the capital. This will mark the end of your safari.
