Itinerary
Day 1Travel to Lake Mburo National Park – embark on a birding excursion in the park
The safari begins with a drive to Lake Mburo National Park situated in the Western Uganda. You will visit the equator en-route and also stop in Mbarara town for lunch. Once you arrive at the park, you will unwind and then embark on a guided birding excursion in any of the main birding spots; the swampy valleys of Warukiri and Miriti, the roadsides between Rwonyo camp and the jetty, the viewing platforms at the salt licks, and Rubanga forest.
Day 2Game drive in the park – boat cruise on Lake Mburo
You will hit any of the park’s networks of game tracks for viewing opportunities. While driving through, you will sight many wildlife species including; zebras, elands, waterbucks, buffaloes, leopards, hyenas and topis. After lunch, you will go for a boat cruise on Lake Mburo. You will spot crocodiles and hippos at the banks, and a variety of water birds. Besides sailing, you can also do sport fishing on the lake.
Day 3Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park – game drive in the park
You will transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park in the early morning. Once there, you will go for a game drive through any of the park’s demarcated game viewing tracks; Kasenyi, the north Kazinga plains and Ishasha region. You will sight numerous wildlife; buffaloes, hippos, warthogs, antelopes, elephants, baboons and the tree-climbing lions restricted to Ishasha region.
Day 4Boat cruise on Kazinga channel – guided walk in Maramagambo forest – transfer to Kibale National Park
The day will begin with a boat cruise on Kazinga channel. You will spot pods of hippos, crocodiles and buffaloes basking in the rising sun along the water banks. A guided nature walk in Maramagambo forest will offer you an opportunity to explore the famous bat caves. You will embark on a drive to Kibale National Park in the early afternoon.
Day 5Chimpanzee trekking excursion – birding excursion in the park
The day’s highlight will be a chimpanzee trekking excursion in Kibale Forest. You will encounter a habituated chimp family and spend an hour observing its members. A habituation experience is available for those desiring to spend the entire day watching the chimps. In the afternoon, you will go for a birding excursion along the boardwalk trail and the various viewing platforms in Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary.
Day 6Community visit – return to Kampala – end of safari
You will go for a village walk in the morning and then embark on your journey back to Kampala in the early afternoon. You will enjoy a scenic drive through the beautiful countryside, the steep terraces, rugged hills and massive tea plantations. Your adventure will end when you reach the capital.
