Schedule Details
Day 1: Golden Monkey Trekking & Transfer to Bwindi
Your driver-guide will meet you in Kigali at 6:00 AM for the transfer to Volcanoes National Park headquarters in Kinigi. After a short briefing, you’ll begin the golden monkey trek at 8:00 AM. These lively primates inhabit the bamboo zones near the forest edge, making the trek relatively easy.
Spend up to one hour observing the golden monkeys as they feed, play, and occasionally venture into nearby potato fields. After the trek, return for lunch, then proceed to cross the border into Uganda and continue to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking & Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi
After an early breakfast, head to Bwindi park headquarters for a gorilla trekking briefing. You’ll then venture into the dense forest in search of a gorilla family. Trekking can take between 1 to 8 hours, depending on the location of the gorillas.
Upon finding them, you'll spend one magical hour in their presence. After the trek, transfer to Lake Bunyonyi—often called the “Switzerland of Africa”—for a relaxing boat ride and scenic exploration of the lake’s islands and viewpoints.
Day 3: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park & Kazinga Channel Boat Safari
Depart Lake Bunyonyi after breakfast and drive through the stunning landscapes of southwestern Uganda to Queen Elizabeth National Park. En route, enjoy panoramic views of the Western Rift Valley, Lake George, and Lake Edward.
In the afternoon, enjoy a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, home to one of Africa’s highest concentrations of hippos. Watch for elephants, buffaloes, crocodiles, and a variety of birds. Later, head out on an evening game drive before settling in for the night.
Day 4: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kalinzu & Return to Kigali
Begin the day with an early breakfast and head to Kalinzu Forest for chimpanzee trekking. With the help of a tracker and guide, search for one of the habituated chimp families. The forest is home to over 300 chimpanzees.
After the trek, begin the journey back to Kigali with a lunch stop en route. You'll be dropped off at the airport in time for your evening flight
