The 10 Days Rwenzori Trekking  is specifically designed for trekking Rwenzori Mountains along the central circuit trail/route. Upon reaching at the Magnificent mountain, one is at liberty of adjusting this package slightly by choosing either to take the Central Circuit or do the trekking encounter to the top of the Mountain (Margherita Peak)

 

Rwenzori Trekking Itinerary

 Day 1. Arrival and Transfer to the hotel.

Upon your arrival, a safari guide will pick you at Entebbe international Airport, take you through the itinerary and transfer you to the hotel where you will spend a night. Dinner and Overnight stay at your preferred accommodation.

 

Day 2. Transfer to Rwenzori Mountains National Park.

After your morning breakfast, Yaneta safaris guide will be there to pick you up to transfer you to the Mountains of the Moon in western Uganda with enroute lunch in Fort portal. Upon reaching the area, you will check in the lodge and spend a night relaxing as your first day trekking awaits you. Dinner and overnight stay at Ruboni Community Camp.

 

Day 3. First day Hiking from Nyakalengija to Nyabitaba (2650m high).

After the morning breakfast, you will start your first Rwenzori trekking by taking the Nyakalengija trial which covers distance of 1600m .This is where UWA (Uganda wildlife authority) will take you  through a short briefing to begin the Rwenzori trekking. The trail will take you through Bakonjo homesteads in steep slopes of the mountain, banana plantations continue with atrial near Mubuku River from where you will again cross river Mahoma before climbing progressively through the forest to reach Nyabitaba hut. Dinner and overnight stay at Nyabitaba hut.

 

Day 4. Trekking to John Matte Hut (3350).

After your breakfast, you will set off from Nyabitaba hut through a small trail and ascend down to Kurt Shafer Bridge just before the conjunction of River Bujuku and Mubuku. The forest progressively cracks into a bamboo region where the trail is slippery and moss-topped. A place of the massive lobelia groundsel vegetation and heather appears before the Nyamileju rock shelter before crossing a swamp to the hut. Dinner and overnight stay at John matte hut. 

 

Day 5. Trek to Bujuku Hut (3900m)

After your morning breakfast, you will start trekking to Bujuku hut, trail smashes down to cross the Bujuku River and arrive at Inferior Bigo Swamp, home of massive lobelias. Cross the swamp to the Higher Bigo swamp before proceeding to Lake Bujuku where sights of the uppermost mountain Stanley in the west are to be viewed. Dinner and overnight stay at Bujuku Hut.

 

Day 6. Climb to Elena Hut (4541m)

Set off from Bujuku after your breakfast, the swampy path hikes the hills west of the lake, going through the supernatural groundsel gorge. Climb to Scott-Elliot Pass that is 4372m long. A metallic stepladder takes you over an exceedingly steep section after which the trail splits , the right trail goes up to Elena Hut and Mt Stanley over a steep rocky trail, while the left-hand  connects you to Scott-Elliot Pass and down to Lake Kitandara. Overnight: Elena Hut at the foothills of the Stanley Glacier.

 

Day 7. Climb of Mount Stanley (5109m) to Kitandara Hut (4027m)

If you not interested at reaching the summit, a more relaxing day hiking from Elena Hut (4541m) to Lake Kitandara (4023m). For those who interested, but also according to the elevation sickness, reflectiveness, ascending capacity and adaptation, hike a further three hours to Margherita peak (5109m) and later descend down to Kitandara Hut. Hike to the Elena glacier, before reaching on to the Stanley Highland. Hike and ascend to Margherita summit, the uppermost peak of the Rwenzori, the most exciting about the trekking Rwenzori. Use of ropes and Crampons may well be recommended. Be ready for a strong, difficult time in the mountains. Get back to the Scott-Elliot pass, sight the supernatural Bujuku Lake and Mt Speke a close range, and proceed to descend down to the Lake Kitandara. Dinner and overnight stay at Kitandara Hut (4023m)

 

Day 8. Climb to Guy Yeoman Hut (3260m ASL)

After breakfast, a sheer hike from the base of Mt Baker to the fresh field pass south parts of Rwenzori over the distance of 4280 m .Outlook the Congo in the west and Mt Stanley in the north is very possible. From the trail, the boggy pass proceeds downhill, going through the rock housing at Bujongolo which is a historical excursion by the Duke of Abruzzi in 1906. Dinner and overnight stay at Guy Yeoman Hut.

 

Day 9. Descend To Nyakalengija Trail Head (1600m), drive back to Kampala. 

Morning breakfast and load up on the equipment. Later, the porters and the climbing partly finally descend out of the Rwenzori Mountains. Trekking will be through a 6 hours walk that goes past the nearby Lake Mahoma and Nyabitaba and passes through the heather area and the Moss Zone. This may be the final hut in the Rwenzori Mountains or you could exit all the way if you feel energetic. On arrival at the foothills of the mountain, proceed to your lodge to freshen up , have lunch and take a long afternoon rest when you will have dinner and overnight.

 

Day 10: Airport Transfer. 

Set off for Kampala, after your breakfast, with lunch enroute in Mbarara. Arrive in the evening hours prior to your flight, you will be transferred to Entebbe Airport for your departure.

    Itinerary

    Day 1 Arrive in Zürich, Switzerland

    We’ll meet at 4 p.m. at our hotel in Luzern (Lucerne) for a “Welcome to Switzerland” meeting. Then we’ll take a meandering evening walk through Switzerland’s most charming lakeside town, and get acquainted with one another over dinner together. Sleep in Luzern (2 nights). No bus. Walking: light.

    Day 2Zürich–Biel/Bienne–Neuchâtel–Geneva

    Enjoy an orientation walk of Zurich’s OLD TOWN, Switzerland’s center of banking and commerce. Then, leave Zurich and start your Swiss adventure. You’ll quickly discover that Switzerland isn’t just home to the Alps, but also to some of the most beautiful lakes. First, stop at the foot of the Jura Mountains in the picturesque town of Biel, known as Bienne by French-speaking Swiss, famous for watch-making, and explore the historical center. Next, enjoy a scenic drive to lakeside Neuchâtel, dominated by the medieval cathedral and castle. Time to stroll along the lake promenade before continuing to stunning Geneva, the second-largest city in Switzerland, with its fantastic lakeside location and breathtaking panoramas of the Alps.

    Day 3Enchanting Engelberg

    Our morning drive takes us from Swiss lakes to Swiss Army. At the once-secret Swiss army bunker at Fortress Fürigen, we’ll see part of the massive defense system designed to keep Switzerland strong and neutral. Afterward, a short drive into the countryside brings us to the charming Alpine village of Engelberg, our picturesque home for the next two days. We’ll settle into our lodge then head out for an orientation walk. Our stroll through the village will end at the Engelberg Abbey, a Benedictine monastery with its own cheese-making operation. You’ll have free time to wander back before dinner together. Sleep in Engelberg (2 nights). Bus: 1 hr. Walking: light.

    Day 4Interlaken Area. Excursion to The Jungfrau Massif

    An unforgettable trip to the high Alpine wonderland of ice and snow is the true highlight of a visit to Switzerland. Globus Local Favorite At an amazing 11,332 feet, the JUNGFRAUJOCH is Europe’s highest railway station. Jungfrau’s 13,642-foot summit was first ascended in 1811 and in 1912 the rack railway was opened. There are lots of things to do here: enjoy the ALPINE SENSATION, THE PANORAMA 360° EXPERIENCE, and the ICE PALACE. Also receive your JUNGFRAU PASSPORT as a souvenir to take home with you. The round trip to the “Top of Europe” by MOUNTAIN TRAIN will take most of the day.

    Day 5Lake Geneva and Château de Chillon

    It’s market day in Lausanne! Enjoy browsing and packing a picnic lunch for our 11 a.m. boat cruise on Lake Geneva. A few miles down-shore we’ll dock at Château de Chillon, where we’ll have a guided tour of this delightfully medieval castle on the water. On our way back we’ll take time to peek into the vineyards surrounding Lutry before returning to Lausanne. Boat: 2 hrs. Bus: 1 hr. Walking: moderate.
